An acoustic revolution

BAUX Acoustic Pulp

The 100% bio-based BAUX Acoustic Pulp panel is the first in the world to uncompromisingly combine the performance properties of sound absorption, safety and durability with sustainability and modern aesthetics. Harmless for us, harmless for the environment. It’s nothing short of an acoustical revolution.

Design: Form Us With Love

BAUX Acoustic Pulp

Over the past century, fossil based materials have become the norm and standard for acoustical products in the interior design and building industries. It’s time for a new kind of material. One that breaks the mold and pushes us beyond what the world believes is possible for sustainability in acoustical products.

The ingredients:

BAUX Acoustic Pulp is made out of sustainably harvested Swedish fir and pine trees. Recycled water. Non-GMO wheat bran. Potato starch. Plant-derived wax. Citrus fruit peels. Zero chemicals.

Patterns inspired by paper

We started by folding paper. For weeks, we played with a multitude of different origami and architecture-inspired lines and shapes until we discovered a series of simple patterns that both matched our aesthetic and provided acoustical benefits.

Laser engineered sound-absorption

The dried surface is then nano-perforated using an advanced laser technique for enhanced sound absorption.

Three shapes in three different colors. All derived from wheat.

Adding paint would have compromised our vision of creating a 100% bio-based product. Instead, with BAUX Acoustic Pulp, color is achieved using different percentages of wheat bran—0, 5 and 30%. Together with the three origami patterns, there are nine color-pattern combinations and endless possibilities for mixing, matching and harmonizing with different space designs. The final effect is an organic expression of character and color, without any chemicals at all.

100% bio-based
100% recyclable
100% biodegradable
0% pollution or waste
Biomimicry engineered
Lightweight
Durable
Fire retardant
Water repellent resistant
Colors made of wheat
Laser enhanced sound absorption

Mix and match patterns and colors.

This patented, 100% bio-based material pushes the acoustic properties of cellulosic materials to a new level.

To achieve extra sound absorption and durability, while maintaining a lightweight product with minimal material usage, we borrowed the hexagonal honeycomb structure originally invented by bees and popularly used by the aerospace industry

Into the Wild

A photographic experiment by Jonas Lindström and BAUX

We knew we could put the BAUX Acoustic Pulp back into nature again without causing any harm. But still, we were curious—would Nature accept it back?

Designed by Form Us With Love

Form Us With Love is a Swedish industrial design studio operating from Stockholm. For eight years, the studio has put dialogue at centre stage for development, using design as a catalyst to position the design brands of tomorrow. Together the studio has partnered with craftsmen, engineers and material experts to challenge the conventional through design. Collaborations include; Scandinavian and international brands such as Ateljé Lyktan, Cappellini, DePadova, FontanaArte, Muuto, Design House Stockholm and One Nordic Furniture Company.

In 2012, Fast Company named Form Us With Love as one of the world’s ‘50 most influential designers shaping the future’. During the Stockholm Design Week 2013, Form Us With Love was announced as proud winners of Swedish Elle Decoration’s annual award ‘Designers of the year 2013’.
